The 2026 WNBA season is only a few games old, but A’ja Wilson is already reminding the league why she remains the standard in women’s basketball.
Wilson delivered a dominant 45-point performance Friday night, leading the Las Vegas Aces to a 101-94 road win over the Connecticut Sun at Mohegan Sun Arena. The four-time MVP was nearly unstoppable from start to finish, shooting an incredible 15-for-18 from the field while also going a perfect 13-for-13 at the free throw line. (Yahoo Sports)

Wilson controlled the game on every level. She scored 19 points in the first half alone and helped Las Vegas build a double-digit lead entering halftime. When Connecticut mounted a late third-quarter comeback and cut the deficit to just two points, Wilson immediately answered with a clutch three-pointer followed by a three-point play that shifted momentum back toward the Aces. The Aces have now won three straight games after dropping their season opener, and Wilson’s dominance is a major reason why Las Vegas once again looks like a championship contender.
Guard Chennedy Carter added 18 points for Las Vegas and continues to impress in her return to the league after spending last season overseas. Meanwhile, rookie Hailey Van Lith led Connecticut with 17 points in the loss. (Midland Daily News)
What makes Wilson’s performance even more impressive is the efficiency. Forty-five points on just 18 shot attempts is elite-level production that very few players in basketball history — men’s or women’s — can match consistently.
At this point, nights like this are becoming part of Wilson’s legacy.
The former University of South Carolina star continues to build one of the greatest resumes the WNBA has ever seen, and if this game is any indication, the rest of the league may once again be chasing Las Vegas all season long. (Vanity Fair)
