The Chicago Sky suffered a major setback after forward Rickea Jackson tore her ACL and will miss the rest of the 2026 WNBA season.
Jackson injured her left knee during Chicago’s win over the Minnesota Lynx on Sunday. After further testing, the team confirmed the injury and announced she will undergo surgery.
The injury comes at a brutal time for the Sky. Jackson had quickly become one of Chicago’s top scoring options early in the season.
Through four games, she averaged 18.0 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game. She also provided energy, athleticism, and shot creation for a team hoping to compete for a playoff spot.
Additionally, Jackson was adjusting well to her new role after joining Chicago earlier this year in a trade from the Los Angeles Sparks.
The former No. 4 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft looked ready for a breakout season before the injury halted her momentum.
Now, the Sky must regroup without one of their rising young stars. Chicago already entered the season dealing with roster depth concerns, so losing Jackson creates an even bigger challenge moving forward.
Meanwhile, fans across the WNBA reacted with disappointment after the news became official. Many viewed Jackson as one of the league’s emerging talents this season.
The Sky have not announced a timetable for surgery or rehabilitation beyond confirming she will miss the remainder of the year.
