Historic Night for Reese as Dream Goes 4-0 on West Coast Road Trip

Angel Reese rewrote the WNBA record book on Monday night, and the Atlanta Dream rode her historic performance to a 78-71 win over the Los Angeles Sparks at Crypto.com Arena — completing a perfect 4-0 sweep of their West Coast road trip.

Reese Makes History

With 7:47 remaining in the game, Reese grabbed her 20th rebound of the night, pushing her season total to 452 and breaking the single-season rebounding record previously held by A’ja Wilson, set in 2024. She didn’t stop there. By the final buzzer, Reese had hauled in 26 rebounds, shattering the single-game rebounding record of 24, which had stood since Chamique Holdsclaw set it in 2003.

Reese added 11 points to go with her rebounding haul, good for her 26th double-double of the season.

“A WNBA record for rebounds in a game is pretty remarkable to witness,” said Dream Head Coach Karl Smesko. “She (Angel) has played at an extraordinary level on this road trip and I think that will continue.”

Reese reflected on what the milestone means to her and her team.

“It means a lot,” Reese said about the records. “I want to be able to show up for my team every night and when I do the personal goals come with it.”

More Milestones for the Dream

Reese wasn’t the only Dream player etching her name into the franchise history books. Allisha Gray set a new Atlanta franchise record for field goals made, connecting on a 3-pointer with 8:54 left in the third quarter for her 247th made field goal — breaking a mark she had shared with Angel McCoughtry. Gray paced the Dream with a game-high 20 points.

Rhyne Howard hit a milestone of her own, drilling a 3-pointer with 7:43 remaining to reach 3,000 career points. Howard finished the night with 18 points.

A Different Kind of Battle

Monday’s win looked nothing like Atlanta’s dominant performance against the Sparks a week earlier, when the Dream jumped out to a 34-12 first-quarter lead en route to a 62-41 halftime advantage. This time, Los Angeles turned the tables early, taking a 37-36 lead into the break as Atlanta struggled with 10 first-half turnovers.

The Dream found their footing in the third quarter by attacking the rim instead of settling for 3-pointers. Jordin Canada, Howard and Gray were especially effective in the frame, combining for 20 points to help Atlanta seize control for good.

Looking Ahead

The win was Atlanta’s fourth straight, capping off a flawless road trip and pulling the Dream to within a game of second-place Golden State in the playoff-seeding race. Atlanta has also built a three-game cushion over eighth-place Dallas for the final playoff spot.

The Dream will look to keep the momentum rolling when they return home to host Portland on Friday.
