Angel Reese is making a habit of this.
The Atlanta Dream power forward recorded her fifth double-double of the season Tuesday night, finishing with 12 points, 13 rebounds, five assists, a steal, and a block in Atlanta’s 91-75 Commissioner’s Cup victory over the Connecticut Sun. She also knocked down her first three-pointer of the year for good measure.
Reese wasn’t alone in the effort. Rhyne Howard poured in 36 points to lead the way, while Allisha Gray added 26 points and seven rebounds. Jordin Canada rounded out an impressive team performance with a double-double of her own — 12 points and 10 assists.
The win pushes Atlanta to 6-2 on the season, one of the better starts in the league. Connecticut, meanwhile, has struggled out of the gate and falls to 2-9.
The conversation around Reese has always carried a caveat — her offensive game is a work in progress. But in Atlanta, where she isn’t asked to carry a scoring load, her versatility and relentless rebounding make her a genuinely valuable piece. Five double-doubles in the early going makes it hard to argue otherwise.
The Dream are quietly building something real.
